Opened on May 7, 1995 and located in the heart of the historic city of Ronda, is the Bandit Museum. A private initiative that was born to make room for a phenomenon that has been surrounded by so many myths in our country.
It is currently the largest information center on this subject at a national level. And to create the perfect environment for the tourist to feel like another character in the history of the city, is located in a traditional house of the city, built more than a century ago in the historic center of Ronda.
The exhibition offers more than 1,316 pieces that are seen each year by more than 51,000 visitors since it was launched twenty years ago. An exhibition that is distributed in five rooms:
Romantic travelers and documentation: You can see baptism and death certificates, certificates of burial and search and capture and real images of famous bandits.
Live the banditry: In this room are represented different scenes with mannequins dressed in the typical clothes of the time, as well as a collection of comics of 200 copies dated in the decade of the 40 in which the way of life of the bandits is related.
Men and names: An exhibition of costumes, oil paintings, watercolors and original photographs of the best known bandits, as well as some events that starred many of them.
Those who followed the track: Room dedicated to the security forces that persecuted the bandits, the civil guard. In this room, besides being able to see capture records and official bulletins, the visitor can see through a map how the command was distributed, the controls, the decorations and the first uniforms they used. All original material.
Weapons and written testimonies: The tour ends in this room where we can see a variety of weapons used by bandits such as leggings, knives or guns.
It should be noted that the museum also has a library with almost 500 books written by people who witnessed this era of our history and ranging from 1823 to the present.
But in addition, Ronda has many other attractions of interest. Especially in what has to do with rural tourism. Therefore, the city is the ideal destination to spend a few days near natural sites such as the Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park and also enjoy everything that the city of Ronda itself can offer.
